Juleum
The Juleum is the imposing assembly-hall building of the former University of Helmstedt, the Academia Julia. Built between 1592 and 1597 in the Weser Renaissance style, it counts among the finest university buildings of its time in Germany. The richly decorated façade, the two-storey great hall and the soaring watchman's tower make the Juleum the city's unmistakable landmark. Today it houses the district and university museum as well as the historic Bibliotheca Julia, with valuable old prints and manuscripts.
