St Stephani Church
St Stephani Church is the main Protestant church of Helmstedt's old town and an impressive example of northern German brick Gothic. The soaring building with its prominent tower was erected in the Middle Ages and was for centuries the spiritual center of the townspeople. Inside, the high vaulting, historic furnishings and the organ are highlights. As the university church of the Academia Julia, St Stephani also played an important role in the city's academic life.
