St Ludgeri Monastery
St Ludgeri Monastery traces its origins to a foundation by Saint Liudger around the year 800 and is among the oldest and most important sacred buildings in northern Germany. Especially precious are the Romanesque double chapel of St Peter and St John and the ancient crypt, whose roots reach back to the early Middle Ages. For centuries the monastery was a spiritual center of the region. Its venerable walls, capitals and vaults make a visit a journey into the early days of Christianity in Saxony.
