Helmstedt with Kids
Helmstedt is surprisingly family-friendly. The emerging Lappwaldsee lake offers recreation and water, the bailiff's tower an ascent with a view, the mysterious Lübbensteine megaliths tell of the Stone Age, and the spa park in Bad Helmstedt is wonderful for running around. One day is enough for the loveliest family highlights.

Family highlights in a single day
We start at the Lübbensteine, climb the bailiff's tower, have lunch and finish in the spa park of Bad Helmstedt with nature at the Brunnental.

Lübbensteine — the Stone Age up close
The two Lübbensteine on the edge of the Lappwald forest are megalithic tombs from the Neolithic — around 5,000 years old. Mighty boulders in woodland surroundings, an exciting destination for little explorers and a piece of prehistory you can touch.
Tip: Bring sturdy shoes — the stones lie at the forest's edge.

Bailiff's tower — up high
The bailiff's tower at the Juleum invites you to climb: up narrow stairs you go, and the reward at the top is a panorama over the roofs of the old town and out to the Lappwald. A little adventure for children with a head for heights.

Lunch in the old town
Around the market square there are easygoing places with children's menus — from pizza and pasta to ice cream and cake. A good refuel before the afternoon by the water.

Lappwaldsee — water and meadows
The Lappwaldsee is emerging from a former opencast mine and is becoming a recreation area. Already today, lakeside paths, meadows and wide views invite you to walk and picnic — plenty of room for the whole family to roam.
Tip: Some shore areas are still under development — watch for the signs.

In the green spa park of Bad Helmstedt with its Brunnental valley, the day can wind down in a relaxed way: play lawns, shady paths and the open-air Brunnentheater. In summer often with a programme for families.
